Rebuilding with
People at the Centre
We believe that a collaborative approach will help dismantle stereotypes, promote mutual understanding, and lay the groundwork for a sustainable and democratic peace process.
At the heart of this vision is a conviction that reconstruction is a social contract, not a technical operation and donor driven process. The people of Gaza—especially youth, women, community activists and professional groups—must be the primary actors in shaping their own recovery.
The Anthedon Initiative rejects externally imposed masterplans and mega real estate projects and instead calls for a grassroots-driven process that builds on the cultural and natural heritage of the region and integrates local governments, civil society, academic institutions, and traditional community structures.

A Vision for Peace
Multiple consortia of local NGOs as a bridge between international funders and local communities
Employ locals to address priority issues (e.g. rubble cleaning) to provide income, education, and resilience.
Ensure transparency in fund management to uphold public trust
Creating community health centres as immediate action to overcome trauma and provide for public gatherings.
Prioritize Gaza-West Bank connectivity and Israel-Palestine connectivity before regional integration.
Empowering industries that serve also as heritage (e.g. textile, craft, agriculture and construction)
Restoring community spaces (mosques, markets, and children's spaces) to reconnect people, create jobs, and preserve local heritage.
Highlighting environmental Cross-Border links as Wadi Gaza, bird migration.
Utilize shared resources as catalysts for connectivity in the region: water, air, aquifer, energy (solar/gas). Stable management of shared resources is key for peace and security.
Digital connectivity as infrastructure -fundamental to the economic future.
Cultural routes connecting the region - look for the shared heritage

Anthedon is the collective work of a team from the HERITOPOLIS Consortium, together with other experts addressing specific issues relevant to the Initiative and in consultation with key local professionals.HERITOPOLIS - Heritage and the Metropolis - is an open-ended research network established in 2021 to explore how metropolises are being (re-)shaped by heritage and how they are redefining its meaning. HERITOPOLIS addresses these challenges linking research and practice through the UN-Habitat UNI – University Network Initiative – MetroHUB partnership and within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. The HERITOPOLIS Society is registered in Korea as an NGO #603-82-78661 and a member of the Korean Research Foundation, www.kci.go.kr #8B4813 www.heritopolis.org
